In the Victorian era, Daffodil represents the essence of
chivalry, the ideal qualifications of a knight, such as
courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms. It could
also mean unrequited love.
More recently, William Wordsworth's short poem "I
wandered lonely as a cloud" has often become linked in
the popular mind with the daffodils which form its main
image: Cheer up.
I Wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
